I have some experience writing research papers, and annotated bibliography. In high school honors English we had to write research papers based on books we read throughout our courses. As well as research papers in history classes, and during current political science courses at Delaware County Community College. The paper was time consuming and had many requirements to receive a good grade. The assignment was a a good learning experience and taught me how to properly write in a research form. The assignment was difficult due to citing, quoting, finding proper and accurate information, and using it in my research paper. Most recently I wrote a research paper in my psychology course about The Stanford Prison Experiment, it was a 5 page paper in which we were aloud to write a topic of our choosing, and find the research to back up the information of the paper. I look forward to learn a better way to write a research paper in our English Composition I course, so I can use that knowledge throughout college.
Over the course of this class we talked about the films Miss Representation, and the Mask you live in. We used our blogs to talk about each film and its importance. In blog #10 Research Project: Miss Representation and #11 Research Project: The Mask You Live In was about how the film Miss Representation and The Mask you live in effected my being, doing, and knowing. I talked about how each film made me feel and how it impacts our society. For blog post #12 Research Project: Analyzing Miss RepresentationI chose to analyze Miss Representation further and in class we created slug lines, six word memoirs, and found poems. The in class activity helped create my blog post, and my thesis for my research project. In blog post #13 Research Project: Miss Representation I talked about how key points in the film support my thesis, and how the in class activity of TPS and GPS will improve my writing for the research project by keeping my project on a straight path and not going off topic. In blog post #14 Research Project: Assessing My Progress, I discussed my progress thus far for my research project and important quotes I pulled from my sources, that explain the meaning of how women are miss represented in todays society through the media.
For my research project I decided to use the film Miss Representation. The research question i choose was "Does media bias prevent young girls from achieving positions of power in American society?" My main source will be the film Miss Representation itself. However for the genre i choose to use an MLA Research Paper, with MLA style citations. My primary audience I hope is to be the media and the public.
Here is where I will present my drafts for my research project:
